Iran's Islamic Progressive Watch Corps (IRGC) said Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh was recently killed by a "short-range rocket" fired from outside his home in Tehran.

In an announcement on Saturday, the IRGC said that in light of the tests conducted so far, the attack against Haniyeh was carried out by "detonating a short-range rocket with a payload of approximately 7 kg. Gram was weighed and sent from outside to the guest's Residence."

It added that Israel would be "seriously condemned" for the killing of Haniyeh, who it said was "supporting the criminal regime" of the US.

Israel has neither confirmed nor denied any involvement, while the United States has said it is responsible for Haniyeh's killing, which further embroils the Center East amid Israel's bitter conflict over the Gaza Strip. Takes steps to put "Didn't know about it or wasn't involved".

The Palestinian leader and his bodyguard were killed in an Iranian government guesthouse in Tehran on Wednesday morning.

Haniyeh went on Iranian funding to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran's recently elected Masoud Pezhashkian.

As security researcher H. A. Heller has pointed out, the account Iran adopts to reveal the strategy of Ismail Haniyeh's death will increase its power against Israel.

The IRGC account is at odds with reports in Western media, which have suggested that explosives were planted in the guesthouse by Israeli operatives.

"It is not yet satisfactory how he was killed and any conclusion will have serious implications for what kind of pressure will emerge and what story will be made," Heller told Al Jazeera. expressed, given that there are two conflicting accounts. Citing unnamed officials, including Center Eastern and Iranian sources, a few Western outlets recently revealed that Haniyeh was killed months ago by a bomb planted in his home in Tehran.

"There's a difference between those two situations," Hellyer says, adding that a rocket "would recommend a safety break to know where to hit, but that's an alternative to dropping the bomb in Iran." There is a safety interval.

Al Jazeera's Resal Sardar says there is a "warring of narratives" about where Haniyeh was killed, either way showing the desperation of the Iranian security administration.

"It is extraordinarily clear that Iran is lagging behind in terms of electronic warfare and interception of signal and exchange efforts," he said.

Farhat said that the killing of Ismail Haniyeh is a violation of Iranian power. "For this, Iran must respond in a manner that can be predicted by this attack."

On Friday, scores of people attended Haniyeh's funeral at a mosque in the Qatari capital, Doha, where the Hamas chief resided with members of the congregation's political office.

He was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the southern outskirts of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, hours after top Hezbollah administrator Fawad Shukar was killed. Five civilians -- three women and two children -- were also killed in the attack, according to Lebanon's welfare service.

Since the conflict in Gaza began, the Tehran-backed group has exchanged fire virtually every day with Israeli forces, and has said it is focusing on the military situation along the border.

Iran said on Saturday that it expects Hezbollah to make further inroads into Israel and will not be limited to military attention for now after Israel killed a Hezbollah military officer.

Israel said Shukar was responsible for rocket fire that killed 12 young comrades in the Golan Heights and coordinated Hezbollah attacks on Israel.

Israel's conflict over Gaza has killed nearly 40,000 people and displaced an entire population of about 2.3 million, leading to what UN experts are calling a food shortage in the region. The conflict began on October 7 with a Hamas attack on an Israeli public group and bases, killing 1,139 people and detaining around 250.

In recent months, Hamas and Israel have been negotiating a cease-fire to end the massacre in Gaza and exchange Israeli prisoners for many Palestinians.
